Tomball ISD Purchases Chromebooks For Virtual Learning

Earlier this month, Tomball ISD approved the purchase of 4,379 Chromebooks in order to move towards the districts goal of having a device for all students, Currently TISD has 14,000 Chromebooks for student and staff use.

COVID-19 has resulted in several technology changes across the district. In addition to the Chromebooks, TISD has provided 4,378 AT&T/Verizon hot spots. The district used funds provided from TEA’s federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. TISD pays 50% of the cost, approximately $1 million dollars.

New devices should be available on campus in October. The district still hopes to purchase additional devices and replace staff desktops with laptops. Laptops would provide staff with access from home in addition to the classroom.

Approximately 2,000 TISD families have requested assistance with technology devices and/or hot spots. Students begin fall semester on September 8 with more than 50% opting for virtual learning.
