Magnolia and Tomball ISD are investing their federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds into their staff. Relief funds will go toward addressing the learning loss that was created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Congress set aside a total of nearly $200 billion in funding for ESSER, to help school districts across the country get back on track in the wake of COVID-19.
Magnolia ISD has received approximately $25 million in ESSER funding. Tomball ISD will have received nearly nearly $12 million after its 2nd and 3rd rounds. The districts are using the ESSER relief funds to hire additional staff and employees to create smaller classes and provide more support for students, while also investing more in their employees.
