Tomball ISD approved the Smart Tag system last spring in an effort to provide a means for parents and staff to monitor students riding the bus. Each student scans an ID card upon loading and unloading the bus and information is communicated to the parents regarding delays or important information related to transportation.
All TISD students will be receiving new ID cards which will help staff identify someone who does not belong on campus. Elementary students will attach their ID cards to their backpacks, while secondary students will be required to wear theirs on a lanyard.
District-wide implantation of the SMART Tag system will begin on January 26th. The program was successfully piloted at select campuses. The new system includes a Parent Portal in order for parents to be alerted when student is 10-15 minutes from their stop.
