Tomball High Teacher is a PAEMST Finalist

Markaela van Putten, a Tomball High School dual credit biology, anatomy and physiology teacher, was named a PAEMST Award Finalist! Markaela teaches her students using “real-world scenarios” to convey and emphasize the reasoning behind the science to be sure that the students understand “why” and not just “how.” She also ensures their understanding by requiring them to use the CER method (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning) when discussing with one another.

Tomball High School’s Principal and Tomball ISD’s Director of Science are both “so excited” that Markaela was named as a finalist for this prestigious award! Markaela is known as an “outstanding educator” whose teaching style positively impacts her students in every way. “The 2019 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th grade science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.”
