For the second consecutive year, Friendswood Development Company hosted the Woodtrace Wilderness Kids Triathlon in its Tomball-area community of Woodtrace. The USA Triathlon-sanctioned event was held at the community recreation center on June 22; it attracted close to 200 youth triathletes, as well as parents, grandparents, and other supportive spectators for age groups 5 to 10 and 11 to 15. Athlete participants took full advantage of the community’s 480+ acres, which included swimming in the pool, biking around the neighborhood, and running on the trails around Lake Woodtrace.
Amie Quinn and her husband Kyle Quinn of The Woodlands-based organization SelecTRI were on hand to facilitate the race and provide mentorship to all participants. One of their missions is to work “collectively in a team atmosphere to promote camaraderie and spirit as well as accepting the responsibility of working towards individual and team goals.”
Returning this year were Geoff and Lauren of Houston’s MIX 96.5, who served as the race’s on-site emcees. All participants received a finisher medal; trophies were presented to top female and male finishers in each age group.
During the event, participants were encouraged to visit all of the fully furnished model homes by Lennar, J. Patrick Homes, Village Builders, Drees Custom Homes, and M/I Homes and register to win a Nintendo Switch. The Hartzler family was the chosen winner.
